Told You It Got Better

As I expected the BBQ was fun.

Students came, some even brought me cards and Lizzie brought cupcakes she had spent the afternoon making for me, and Brianna brought me balloons. It was pretty sweet. Plus I surprised them with 3 new games. The first one was a keeper, the other two not as amazing.

After the Youth Group BBQ some of my friend and I went to Chocolate for some good birthday girl time.

The funniest thing is that every girl who came to Chocolate brought me a card and though each card was different each one contained a promise of a meal and a pedicure. This was not planned, and that made it that much funnier.

As if the night was not humorous enough we went to see The Proposal, which I will honestly say I did not have high hopes for.

Luckily I was surprised by how utterly hilarious it was. I had not laughed that hard in a theater for a very long time.

It was a fantastic end to a fabulous birthday!

It's My Birthday and I'll Blog if I Want to

Yep. Today I am 29. So is my old roomie, Darbi (Happy Birthday to you) and a surprisingly large group of my friends have this birthday as well...guess it is as good as day as any to be born.

If you know me at all you know I love birthday's, mine especially but other peoples as well. I have friends (you know who you are) who do not share my passion for birthdays. Why do I like them so? Because, you usually get together with people you love who love you, you get to have a party or maybe 2 or 3 depending how much you like to party. And let's face it you get spoiled a little.

I was not really looking forward to my birthday this year, because 29 is just some random year, not a biggie like 1,16, 21, 25, or 30...also because it is awful close to that Big 30. But then I thought you know what, I love birthdays and this may be my last birthday in the states at least for awhile and with this group of friends, so why not make it a big deal. So instead of settling for a lame not so amazing birthday I decided to really let myself enjoy 29.

So far things are working out well, and I can see that they are only going to be getting more spectacular. My birthday started with one of my student spending the night last night and having to be up at 6:30 am (I am not a morning person, but somehow this was all fine)She wished me a happy birthday on her way out the door to work.

Then my Dad took me out for our Annual Father Daughter Birthday Breakfast. I got to pick so I picked Harbor Cafe, cause their Blueberry French Toast is the best sliced bread ever. Sadly they were closed, so we went to my second choice...Sweet Pea Cafe, where I ordered my absolute favorite Crepes Benedict SOOOO Good! We got to cruise about in a sweet 2009 Toyota Avalon because my jeep is in the shop. I was pleased to discover that the GPS and I agree on the shortest routes to places, and the GPS is just one more way to practice Italian!

I went to the mail, and got Birthday Cards (another plus of birthdays)! Then when I got to the office our new Office Manager had brought me a goodie in a white paper sack to enjoy later when I am not so full.

Not sure when that will be, because at 1pm my family is coming to take me to lunch at Taco V and I never leave there hungry.

Tonight is our first Sr. High Summer BBQ and I am actually pretty excited to be with my students, we have had a two week break, and when they are excited it makes youth group so much more fun. We also get to welcome the freshmen tonight.

Because Summer Youth Group gets done early some of my girl friends and I are going to Chocolate for desert and then to see The Proposal! This is not a bad birthday.

And all this is today my PARTY is on Saturday! And you know what? almost 30 of my favorite ladies of all ages are coming to party with me! Likely 29 because I was never allowed to invite more people than my age to my birthday parties. A good rule, and one I am pretty sure is going to play out.

So 29 is a pretty fabulous Birthday! Thanks Friends and Family and if it is your Birthday today too I hope it is equally amazing!

Hitting the Road

I am heading up to my old stomping grounds in Crescent City July 11th and will be at Pelican Bay Evangelical Free Church on the 12th. I am bringing my dad and little brother along for the ride, and we will be there till Tuesday the 13th. We would love to see as many of our Crescent City Friends as possible while we are there. Please send me a message, give me a call or drop me and email, if you have time to see us those days.

Later that day I got to thinking...

I have always found that there are certain characters on TV or in the movies or books who can somehow capture what I am experiencing and express it so well that I just sit there and say...exactly.

While I would not claim to have all things in common with any of these characters,we do share similar opinions at times. This week, no maybe this year I have felt that Carrie Bradshaw, of Sex and the City has summed up some of my feelings on things.

Carrie : When did being alone become the modern-day equivalent of being a leper? Will Manhattan restaurants soon be divided up into sections -- smoking / non-smoking, single / non-single?

Carrie : Everywhere I looked, people were standing in two's. It was like Noah's upper west side rent-controlled ark.

Carrie: Some people are settling, some people are settling down, and some people refuse to settle for anything less than butterflies.

Carrie : Think about it. If you are single, after graduation there isn't one occasion where people celebrate you. ... Hallmark doesn't make a "congratulations, you didn't marry the wrong guy" card. And where's the flatware for going on vacation alone?

Carrie: Faced with her own inadequacy, Samantha did something only Samantha could do -- she threw an I-don't-have-a-baby shower, to let everyone know she was fabulous.

Carrie : It's really hard to walk in a single woman's shoes -- that's why you sometimes need really special shoes!

"It's like the riddle of the Sphinx... why are there so many great unmarried women, and no great unmarried men?"

~ Carrie Bradshaw

So because she says it so well, I thought I would let her say it for me.
